Heff, actually, its permanent Erbs Palsy that is particularly rare. Like your daughter, there are about 1-10% of cases that do result in Erb’s Palsy, but only 10% of those are permanent. Temporary Erb’s can be caused by natural forces during labor that compress on the brachial plexus nerve, but permanent comes from stretching forces when the doctor pulls on the baby’s head when the shoulder is stuck, resulting in a permanent tear in the nerves. It’s that head-pulling that is the culprit and the usual focus of these law suits.

Small world – babygirlheff was born with a mild case of Erb’s Palsy that’s pretty much resolved itself at 7-8 months. I’m surprised it doesn’t happen more often, to be honest.
